Horse Camping Regulations at Drayton Valley Horse Club

DVHC Executive Melanie Promoting the club at BearPaw Ranch

Some of our most asked questions?

Q: “Do we rent horses?”

A: No, we do not.

Q: “What campground facilities do we provide?”

A: There are two sets of outhouses and well water for animal use, which is not recommended for human consumption. We have stand stalls and/or box stalls available at each site.

Q: “Do you take reservations or can I make a reservation?”

A: We do not accept reservations; our campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

Q: “Are you required to have a horse to camp?”

A: Yes, you are required to have horses when using the campground.

Q: “How long can you stay consecutively?”

A: According to the parks rules and regulations, the maximum consecutive stay is 14 days.

Q: “Can I use my ATV/dirt bike/side by side?”

A: No, the use of all ATV-type vehicles is prohibited in the campground.

Q: “Do you have to be a member to use the trails?”

A: No, the trails are open to the public; however, they are designated for horse and rider use only, in line with the horse camping rules.

Q: “Can I bring my dog?”

A: Dogs are permitted, but in the campground, to respect other campers, they must be leashed at all times. On the trails, they can be off-leash, but they should have a good recall and not disrupt other horses.

Just a friendly reminder: just because your horse(s) are okay with it doesn’t mean everyone else’s horse(s) will be. Please be mindful of others.
